A great goal deserves a great video. You don't need a professional camera: with a phone and a few tricks, any family member, teammate or coach can film plays that look good and make sense at first glance.
1. Ask for permission and respect others
Before filming, check that the club and the competition allow matches to be recorded. Grassroots football means there are minors on the pitch and in the stands: film the play, not the people, and avoid close-ups of other players without their permission.
2. Find some height and a good angle
If you can, film from the stands or a raised spot, level with the halfway line or a little further forward. From above, the play is much easier to follow: who passes, who makes the run and how it ends in a goal.
3. Keep it steady
Hold your phone with both hands and your elbows tucked in, or rest it on a fence or a small tripod. A shaky video is hard to watch, however good the goal is.
4. Start recording before the play
Goals don't give you a warning. Film the whole attack and trim it afterwards. It's better to have a few seconds too many than to miss the start of the move.
5. Keep the goal in the shot
Keep the player with the ball and the goal in the frame. Avoid digital zoom, because it makes the image pixelated: it's better to move a little closer or crop the video later.
6. Mind the light and the quality
Stand with the sun behind you, clean the lens before the match and film in 1080p (Full HD) at 30 or 60 frames per second. A higher resolution takes up much more space and you'll rarely notice the difference on a phone.
7. Trim and check before uploading
Leave a few seconds before the goal so the play makes sense, and cut shortly after the celebration. Listen to the audio too: if you can hear insults, shouting or inappropriate comments, mute it. At GolReel there's only room for good football.
8. Upload it to GolReel
Open the GolReel app and upload your clip so your football gets seen. Are you a goalkeeper? Your saves count too: GolReel also has a Save of the Month.
