If your son or daughter plays football, it's only natural to wonder where their videos are published and who can see them. GolReel was created for grassroots football, where many players are minors, so safety isn't an add-on: it's at the heart of how the platform works. In this guide we explain, step by step, what GolReel does to protect your family and what you can do yourself.
What GolReel is (and what it isn't)
GolReel is a video platform only for football: goals, plays and saves by players and goalkeepers, in both girls' and boys' football. Every month the community votes and the Goal of the Month and the Save of the Month are chosen.
GolReel is not a messaging social network: there are no chats or private messages. Nor is it a place for any kind of content: only real football is allowed, with no video games and no videos that belong to others.
Minimum age: 14 to have your own account
- When signing up, users are asked for their date of birth. If they are not at least 14, the app does not allow the account to be created.
- The date of birth and the email address are stored in a private record: they never appear on the public profile.
- Is your child under 14? Then it's the father, mother or legal guardian who creates their own account (choosing the father or mother role) and uploads the goals and saves. That way, an adult always decides what gets published.
No video is published without being reviewed
Every uploaded video follows this path:
- Once uploaded, it is pending review and nobody else can see it.
- An artificial intelligence system analyses it to detect prohibited content, such as violence, hate or content that isn't suitable for minors.
- If it's approved, the video is published. If not, it stays blocked and is not shown.
- The moderation team can review borderline cases and handles every report from the community.
No private messages: nobody can write to your child
On GolReel nobody can send private messages: not other users, not clubs, not scouts. Clubs and scouts can see public profiles and videos, but any contact must come through official channels and, if the player is a minor, always through their family.
GolReel is not an agency and does not guarantee trials or signings. Be wary of anyone who promises otherwise or who tries to contact your child outside official channels.
Filtered comments
- An automatic filter analyses comments to detect offensive language, and the moderation team reviews the ones it flags.
- Whoever uploads a video can turn comments off for that video, and also choose whether comments are allowed by default.
- Criticism is only welcome if it's constructive: here we build players up, we don't tear them down.
Privacy controls you can switch on
In Settings > Privacy & Security you'll find:
- Private account: only followers will be able to see the videos.
- Safe mode: only verified and safe videos are shown.
- Comments by default: decide whether new videos allow comments.
- Two-step verification: an extra layer to protect access to the account.
If you see something you don't like: report and block
- Report: on any video, tap "Report" and choose the reason: violent content, offensive language, bullying or harassment, sexual content or content not related to football. You can add a description. The moderation team reviews it.
- Block: when you block a user, you no longer see their posts and they can no longer interact with you.
- Sanctions: depending on how serious it is, a breach can lead to a warning, a temporary suspension or a permanent ban. There is zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia or violence.
The rules in a nutshell
- Respect: no insults, trash talk or bullying. If you wouldn't say it on the pitch, don't say it here.
- Real football only: goals, saves, skill and passion.
- Suitable for all ages: nothing meant only for adults.
- Authenticity: no impersonating anyone and no inflating votes.
- Image rights: videos can only be published with permission from the people who appear in them, especially if they are minors.

Your data
GolReel only asks for what it needs: username, email, date of birth (to verify age), profile photo and the videos you upload, plus the votes and views used for the rankings. GolReel does not sell personal data to third parties. The connection is encrypted and the information is stored on Firebase's secure infrastructure. If you ever want to leave GolReel, you can delete the account from Settings > Account > Delete Account.

Tips for families
- Choose a username without surnames or details that reveal your child's school or where you live.
- If you'd rather only people you know can see the videos, switch on the private account.
- Check every video before uploading it: make sure no personal details or close-ups of other children appear without permission, and that the audio has no inappropriate comments.
- Talk to your son or daughter: if anything makes them uncomfortable, ask them to tell you, and report it.
- Be wary of any contact that comes outside official channels.
